He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene Stapleton and Easie Mae Stapleton; his wife Mary Ann Stapleton; his son James Clinton Stapleton; and his siblings, Norman Wheeler Stapleton, Lonnie Stapleton and John Stapleton.
He is survived by: his siblings, Connie Sue Justice, Sheila Ann Moore, Connie Lee Burke, Auddry Jean Stapleton, Ronnie Stapleton, Everett Stapleton and Donna Stapleton. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other family, and friends.
