He was predeceased by: his parents, Rush Wayne and Flossie N. Ely (Keck); his brothers, Richard, Ralph and Jerry Ely; and his sisters-in-law, Ada Ely and Normagene Ely.
He is survived by: his wife Julaine Knecht; his daughter Susan Decker (Steve) of Montpelier; his grandchildren, James Moon, Jr., Kenneth J. Moon, Kevin G. Moon and Stevie K. Lanzer; his brothers, Chet Ely (Marcella) of Avon Park and Tom Ely (Jackie) of Arcadia, Florida; and his sister-in-law Sharon Ely of Montpelier. He is also survived by six great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be given to the First United Methodist Church in Montpelier.
