He was predeceased by: his parents, Aloys Bertke and Clara Belle Bertke (Gudorf); his former wife Thelma Bertke (Penno); his wife Kathleen Bertke (Monnin); his sister Velma Wenning; and his siblings-in-law, Phyllis Castle (Kemper), Paul Fleck and Joan Wenning (Gast).
He is survived by: his children, Karen (David Junkin), Judith Leese (Carte) of Minster, OH, Kevin Monnin of Cody, WY, Allan Bertke of Minster, OH, Deborah (Shawn Sharp) and Michael (Lisa Bertke); his sister Viola (Robert Albers); and his siblings-in-law, Mark Wenning, Rosemary Fleck of Coldwater, OH and Ralph (Diane Penno). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren.
