He was predeceased by: his parents, George Henry and Dorothy Louise Shank (Lauer); and his sisters, Sally McMillan, Denise Johansson and Victoria Lockaby.

He is survived by: his siblings, Valerie Rader (Lee) of Flat Rock, MI, Patricia Davis of Girard, Katherine Carl of Seebring and Michael (Shawntel) of Niles. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made to the Disabled Veterans of America in Walter's name.
