He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Houston and Helen Louise Day Alkire; his brothers, Richard and William Alkire; and his cousin Valdo Thrush.
He is survived by: his friend Bobby Durst; his wife Judith Adams Alkire; his children, Dave Alkire (Jaye Puckett) of Columbus and Suzie Schauf of Tucson, Arizona; his stepchildren, Brian Lares Jr. (Lisa), Michael Lares (Nicole), John Lares (Tesa Moorman) and Julie Lares (Ray Thrash); his grandchildren, Shelbie Stevenson (Michael), Nathan Schauf and Ian Alkire; his great grandchild Heighleigh Stevenson; and his siblings-in-law, Susan English, Bess Fleming (Dudley), Chad Adams (Roberta) and Steve Adams (Cheryl). He is also survived by his cousins the Thrushes; and many nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.
