He was predeceased by: his former wife Janice C. Saunders; his parents, Earl Glen Saunders and Anna Bell; his son Steven L. Bach; and his great grandchild Whitney M. Neal.

He is survived by: his wife Vades Saunders; his children, Delana Taylor (David), Carol Carey, Cheryl Drew (Tim), Arlene Lewis (Edgar), LeVada Whitley (Russ) and Larry Lamb (Debbie); and his siblings, Jim Saunders and Joyce Ann Couch. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
