He was predeceased by: his father Matt; and his sister Linda Evans. He is survived by: his mother Mary Sams; his children, Brittnie (John Newberry) and Brandon Sams (Kristin Compton); his grandchildren, Dezerai, Colton Bice, Ayden, Addilyn and Axden Sams; and his sisters, Mary Gray and Cindy Geer. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of friends.
