He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Schmidt and Marie Schmidt (Roessner); his wife Elizabeth "Betty" Schmidt (Grogg); and his stepsons, Roger Teeple, Larry Teeple and Bruce Teeple.
He is survived by: his children, Roger Schmidt (Sherry), Lisa Jones (Mark), Kevin Schmidt (Heather), Michael Schmidt and Lori Huffman (Brad Weyandt); his stepchildren, Diana Fields (Robert), Betty Lawrence (Randy Petit), Celina, Steven Teeple (Gilda) and Mark Teeple (Evelyn); his former wife Patricia Schmidt (Heitkamp); and his siblings, Louis "Joe" Schmidt, Dan Schmidt, Julienne Rehmert and Raymond "Bill" Schmidt.
