He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Clifton and Alice Kildow Clifton; his wife Dixie L. Clifton; and his siblings, Neta Clifton, Walter Eugene and Lyle Clifton.

He is survived by: his children, Peggy Barnes (Bill) of McConnelsville, Rita Riley (Doug) of McConnelsville and John Clifton (Diane) of McConnelsville. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.
