He was predeceased by: his parents, James Goatley and Alvine Goatley; his siblings, Bob, Joe, Louise and Betty (Mel); and his son Mel Jr..
He is survived by: his wife Gloria; his sons, Mark (Shelly) and Jeff (Laura); his grandchildren, Josh (Nicole), Brad, Matt (Jordan), Zac (Raquel), Jake, Grant, Jeff and Megan; his great grandchildren, Harley, Amelia, Ava, Aiden and Alec; and also Mike Gregory (Paula). He is also survived by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mel's name to either the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
