He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred G. Schmidt and Minnie I. Schmidt (Pearson); his wife Shirley; his son Russell A. Schmidt; and his sisters, Katherine "Katie" McKelvey and Ruthea Gault.
He is survived by: his children, Jeffrey L. Schmidt (Ginny) of Vienna and Denise A. Brannon (Reed) of Elk Mt. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandsons; 3 nieces and a nephew.
