He is survived by: his wife Sheila Cowan; his sons, Christopher Cowan (Brittany) and Gary Cowan II (Kristy); his grandsons, Cameron Cowan and Connor Cowan; his siblings, Kim Hillard, Judy Cowan Wissmar (Rick Weaver), Alan Cowan, Paul Cowan (Jennifer), Jay Cowan (Brandy) and Eric Cowan (Stacey); and his cousin Robert "Bobby" Burtt (Jackie). He is also survived by many nephews, nieces and cousins.
