She was predeceased by: her husband Robert Gates; her son Mark Alan Gates; her parents, Neil Stewart and Inez Stewart Scholl; and her sister Mary Ann Brewer.

She is survived by: her grandchildren, Lucas, Mitchel, Clayton, Brynn Gates, Lauren Davis, Nathan Davis, Adam Meeks, Abbey Meeks, Chloe Brogan (Brock), Jeremy Davis (Stephanie) and Melissa Dranschak (Chris); and her great grandchildren, Harley Brogan, Rory Brogan, Kameron Davis, Autumn Davis, Haden, Avery and Dawson Dranschak.
