He was predeceased by: his father Ray L. Mapes; his wife Mary L. Latham Mapes; his son Larry Mapes; and his brothers, Kenneth and Robert Mapes.
He is survived by: his children, Sharon Arata (Michael) of California, Becky Birchfield (Earl) of Marysville, Steven Mapes (Becky) of Milford Center, Linda Mapes of Marysville, Mary Beth Rausch (Brian) of Milford Center, John Mapes (Mona) of Milford Center, Pam Cook of Richwood and Lisa Cook (Jeffrey) of Springfield; and his grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Pattengale (Phil), Daniel Radcliffe (Anuradha), Mark Birchfield (Nansalmaa), Stacy Phillips, James Neil (Amy), Laura Schmidt (Jeff), Heather Wolford (Phil), Sherri Ann Burchette (Anthony), Jason Murrah, Stephanie Fairchild, Jennifer Luke (Chris), B. R. Rausch, Justin Rausch (Jessica), Amanda McDaniel (Matt), Adam Mapes, Ryan, Brandon Cook (Calle), Nathan Cook and Nicholas Cook. He is also survived by 37 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Memorial contributions may be made in Leland's memory to the Union County Humane Society or to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
