He was predeceased by: his parents, Leslie Benefield and Irene Benefield (Underwood); and his siblings, Michael Benefield, Sheila Jensen and Monette Croll.
He is survived by: his wife Leila M. Howard; his children, Dennis M Benefield and Lesley I. Benefield; his grandchildren, Kalee J. Doll and Kyle M. Doll; and his siblings, Elaine Gerkensmeyer (George), Kenneth Benefield (Sharon), Rebecca Hoffman (Joseph), Criss Benefield, Pasty Helmeci and Larry Benefield. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
