He was predeceased by: his parents, Stanley Junior "Jug" Caylor and Margaret Ellen "Jeannette" Marsh (Kell); his stepfather Richard Marsh; and his half-brother Richard Marsh. He is survived by: his wife Jan E. Shoemaker of Marengo; his children, Deanna Carter (John) of Marengo and Chad Caylor of Orient; his grandchildren, Jeffrey Carter, Justin Carter (Payton) and Nichole Carter (Kaitlyn); his great grandchildren, Lincoln, Skye and Iris Carter; his sister Georgianna Hickle (Richard) of Lewis Center; and his sister-in-law Linda Lovsey (Charles) of Piketon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Denny's name may be made to the American Heart Association.
