He was predeceased by: his parents, John Henry and Hannah; his brother John; and his nephew Richard. He is survived by: his wife Iva; and his children, Robert Douglas (Joyce), Crystal (Kirk Miller) and Edith Steffan (Steve). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
