He was predeceased by: his parents, Ira Carothers and Adelaide Carothers; his wife Gurley Carothers (Simpson); and his brother David Allen Carothers. He is survived by: his children, David Carothers (Carol), Keith Carothers (Sandy) and Andrea Hogan (Chris); and his grandchildren, Justin Carothers, Brad Carothers (Katie), Nicole Carothers, Derek Carothers, Natalie Carothers, Andrew Carothers, Paige Carothers, Owen Hogan and Garrett Hogan.
