He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Gruber and Lelia Gruber (Swaim); his children, Cindy Portello, Melissa Merrick and Jim Gruber; and his siblings, Dorothy Elsass, Fred, Bob, Bill and Donald Gruber.
He is survived by: his children, Kelli Christy (Steven Locke), Terry Shier, Kirk Gruber (Deena), Kraig "Scotty" Gruber and Billy Portello; and his pet Kitty. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
