He was predeceased by: his parents, Roman Prater and Myrtle Miller (Mollett); and his brother Rabon Prater. He is survived by: his wife Sandra (Edelman); his children, Darryl Prater (Sheila), Terri Connell, Scott Prater (Dani) and Jason Prater; his grandchildren, Alexis, Baron, Bristy, Brayden, Jeremy and Olivia; his great grandchild Amiyah; and his brother Gary Miller (Sharon). He is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews.
