He was predeceased by: his former wife Lynne Ann Houston (Merritt); his son Daniel Christopher Houston; his stepfather Shelby Houston; his mother Goldie; and his friend Janet Rader.

He is survived by: his wife Janet Rader; his son Jim Jr. (Sarabeth); his grandchildren, Gabryella and Jimmie III; his daughter Naomi; and his brother Preston.
