He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Hertenstein and Blanche Ross Hertenstein; his wife Florence "Myrnie" Elnora Shaw Hertenstein; his son Rick Hertenstein; his grandson James Steven Hertenstein; and his siblings, Stanley, Dave, Dana Hertenstein, Cloreta Smith and Eleanor Townsley.
He is survived by: his children, Christina Sewart (Kevin) of Wilmington, LeAnna Beamer (Jerry) of Leesburg, Jack Hertenstein (Sherry) of Lynchburg and Steve Hertenstein of Hillsboro; his grandchildren, Bethany, Mindy, Miranda, Melanie, Matthew, Jody, Kayla, Kyle, Rachel, Cody and Cory; and his great grandchildren, Oakley, Lilly, Kiannah, Sophie, Sawyer, Peyton, Addison, Jackson, Jayce, Harper, Hadleigh, Nola, Bralynn and Champ.
