With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Yakub Abdul Shareef of Lorain, Ohio, born in New Haven, Connecticut, who passed away on July 14, 2021 at the age of 75. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Clara McElya and Wesley McElya; his stepmother Anita McElya; and his siblings, Alice Hughes, Charlotte McElya, Betty Wooten and Lavoid McElya.
He is survived by: his children, John McElya Jr., Abdul Shareef Sr., Soyraya McElya, Carla Coleman, Lashay Barton, Rasheedah Shareef, Rina Jones, Anita Sutton and Christina Frymier; and his siblings, Wesley McElya Jr., Iman Shakur, William McElya Sr. (Hattie) and Aviel Rivcah. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, and friends.
