He was predeceased by: his parents, L. G. Tate and May Lewis of Florida; and his siblings, Louis George Tate, Christine and Vivian Tate.
He is survived by: his son Dione Raymond Smith; his grandchildren, Dione Smith Jr. and My'Ivory Smith; and his sisters, Jannie, Davenport of Lorain, Marian Weaver (Stanley) of Cleveland and Theresa Tate of Lorain. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
