Eleanore J. Majkut Obituary
Eleanore J. Majkut (nee Kanes), age 95, of Lorain, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on the morning of Friday September 8, 2023. She was born on February 5, 1928 in Lorain to Stephen and Mary Kanes who both immigrated to America from their native Czechoslovakia.
Ellie attended Holy Trinity Parish School and went on to graduate from Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1945. Following graduation, she worked in a secretarial capacity until she married her husband, George J. Majkut in 1949. Later in life, she worked as a hostess for home parties in which she sold cosmetics and jewelry.
Ellie was an active parishioner of Holy Trinity Church in Lorain where she was a member of the Ladies Guild as well as a member and Recording Secretary of St. Mary Magdalene Society Lodge Branch # 77. In addition, she belonged to the Holy Trinity Slovak Seniors as well as the American Slovak Club where she sat on the administrative board for more than two decades and also volunteered countless hours working at the weekly fish fry.
Ellie dedicated herself to remaining relevant in the lives of her children and grandchildren and made certain that she was always present for the important events in their lives. Those who knew her well will agree that she was a wonderful person who was kind, loving, and considerate to everyone she met.
Ellie enjoyed league bowling and gardening in her free time; she also loved to travel, cherished family get-togethers, and loved small animals. She always had one or two cats loving her back.
Survivors include her daughter Susan Wilson (George) of Lorain, and sons Jerome A. Majkut and Richard P. Majkut also both of Lorain. She also leaves seven grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Ellie was preceded in death by her husband George in 1995, sister Margaret Klein-Smith, and brothers George, Albert, and John Kanes.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will begin Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter Parish (3501 Oberlin Avenue) with Reverend Frank P. Kosem officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Ellie's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers of Mercy New Life Hospice and Denise's Adult Care for the high level of care and compassion that they provided to her while in their care.
