He was predeceased by: his wife Marie Payne; his children, Alice Marie Payne and Mark "Benjie" Payne; his parents, Anthony Bennett and Mary Bennett; his stepparents, Allen and Oneida Payne; and his siblings, Ornetha Simon, Louise Felder, Dozier "Buster" Payne, James "Root" Bennett and Olden "Tonchie" Bennett.
He is survived by: his children, Virginia "Ginger" Cruz, Ruvena "Cookie" Brown, Linda "Bonnie" Smith, Bennette Thomas (Ricky), Mary Evelyn Nixon (Allen), Barry Payne and Dean Payne (Charity). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
