He was predeceased by: his wife Frieda Thompson; his stepdaughters, Sheila Wolfinger and Sherry Rozier; and his siblings, Clifford Thompson, Denver Thompson, Robert Thompson, Daisy Mount, Jessie Martin, Margrette James, Zelva Burtrum and Stanley Thompson.
He is survived by: his children, James Thompson of Union Furnace, Barb Huston (Greg) of Logan, Carla Dickerson (Kevin) of New Lexington, Deborah Thompson (Jeff) of Logan and Ronald Thompson (Daphene) of Logan; his stepchildren, James Blankenship of Columbus, Paul Cyrus of Lancaster, Roy Blankenship (Diane Adkins) of Circleville and Penny Hines (Tom) of Marietta; his grandchildren, Heather B. Davies, Joshua Tucker, Brian Tucker, Brandy L. Edgell, Shawn Tucker, Brittany Smith, Brandon Thompson and Chelsea Harder; his great grandchildren, Harlow Culberston, Jesse Culberston, Aiden Culberston, Jagger Culberston, Jovie Culberston, Hunter Culberston, Paisley Culberston, Kayden Culberston, Bailey Culberston, Karley Culberston, Johnathon Culberston and Austin Culberston; and his siblings, Wayne Thompson (Harriett) of Logan and Betty Johnson of Logan.
