He was predeceased by: his mother Violet C. McCoy; his stepfather David McCoy; and his uncles, George, Michael and Robert Kernich.

He is survived by: his wife Laurie A. Wisbith Kernich; his children, Ryan Kernich (Monique), Daniel Kernich and Jessica Grafton (Joshua); his grandchildren, Logan Kernich, Olivia Kernich, Luka Kernich, Nicole Kernich, Caleb Kernich, Benjamin Grafton and Miles Grafton; his uncle Nickolas Ronald Kernich (Catherine); and his cousins, Vanessa Skidmore (Tim), Roberta McCarthy (Steve), Cathy Kernich, Donald Kernich (Belinda), Mary Wiebel (Rusty) and Heather Kernich.
