She was predeceased by: her parents, Jack Wesley Short and Shirley Jean Meach. She is survived by: her husband James Lewis Smith; her children, Della Mae Smith, LaTosha L. Smith-Biller (Jason), Loraine Ashley Harris, Dapphine Alexandria Harris, Darrell Lee Smith, David Lee Taylor and Jasper Lee Taylor; and her brother Daniel Short.
