He was predeceased by: his parents, John Sims and Martha Sims (Nettles); his siblings, James L. Sims, Shirley A. Macklin, Joe L. Sims and Roy E. Sims; and his grandparents, John Wesley, Maggie Nettles and Grace Chaplin.

He is survived by: his children, Nakita R. Sims and John R. Jenkins; his godson Malachi J. Williams; and his siblings, Ruby J. Sims, John L. Sims, Jr. (Linda), Melvin D. Sims (Cheryl), Armin J. Petty (Charles), Betty J. Sims, Carolyn R. Sims and Tony Long. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
