He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernard Sr. Burkholder and Patricia Burkholder (Gause); and his sisters, Sylvia Mackey and Vickie Burkholder. He is survived by: his spouse Pat Burkholder (Ellerbrock); his cousins, Kim, Beck, Bert and Mary; his sons, Paul Burkholder (Mindy) and Cory Burkholder (Ginny); his grandchildren, Kaelee Burkholder, Xavier Burkholder and Broxton Burkholder; and his siblings, Bernard A Burkholder, Jr., Bruce Burkholder (Connie Ellerbrock) and Jeanice Whitaker (Dan).

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Rita's Cancer Center.
