He was predeceased by: his parents, Deeb Kanaan and Mary Michael Kanaan; and his sister Delores Joseph. He is survived by: his spouse Jackie Hrenko Gordon of Newton Falls; his daughter Lisa Golterman; and his stepsons, Rick Gordon (Sue) of Canfield, Michael Gordon (Dawn) and Greg Gordon (Tina) of Columbus. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In place of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Sam to St. Rose Catholic Church or to the Emmanuel Community Care Center, 2 North State Street, Girard, Ohio 44420.
