He was predeceased by: his parents, Jewett Curtis Harlan and Adelaide Harlan (Lowe); his sisters, Patricia Ann Gilland and Barbara Decker; and his former wife Jeanette Kay Joe (Craig).
He is survived by: his sisters, Carrie Ruth Noble and Jackie Kruthaupt (Roy Coyle); his children, Joe Ernest Harlan (Theresa) and Joanne Harlan Stock (Bill); his spouse Augusta Smith; his sons, Michael Smith (Jackie) and Stephen Smith (Amy Taylor); and his grandchildren, Madison Marie Smith (Zach Cobb) and Andrew James Smith.
Visitation was held on Thursday, April 17th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Liberty Heights Church (7904 Princeton Rd, Middletown, OH 45044). A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 17th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Friday, April 18th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Boggstown Cemetery (3287 N London Rd, Fairland, IN 46126).
