He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Loretta K. Klaas; his sons, Donald Klaas Sr. (Linda) and Douglas Klaas (Sue); his stepchildren, Eddie Vest (Tracey) and Kathy Vest; and his siblings, Fran (late Ray), Paul and Barbara.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Hamilton.
