She was predeceased by : her parents, Thomas Alvin Stephens and Josie Lorene Dennis; and her brother Thomas Alvin Stephens II. She is survived by : her husband Luther Byars McDaniel; her children, Jonita McDaniel Pool and Stephen Byars McDaniel; her grandchildren, Cassie Jo Carter, Casey Jen Amonette, Riley Jean Guyer, Donovon Cox and Maxwell Morgan; and her great grandchildren, Nora Jane Carter, Josie Claire Carter, Evelyn Jean Guyer, Wayne Byars Guyer and Viktor Fox Amonette.

Memorial contributions in Joan's honor may be gifted to either the Arthritis Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
