He was predeceased by: his parents, Bryan A. Sharpe and France G. Sharpe (Wulff); his former wife Anna Mae Perry; and his siblings, Clyde (Bud), Lawson, Eldon and Patricia Heilman.
He is survived by: his wife Sharon Bates; his children, Mike Sharpe (Anne) of Liberty Center, Jeff Sharp (Lori) of Ridgeville Corners and Lynn Heller (Todd) of Whitehouse; his grandchildren, Joseph, Wesley Sharpe, Tayte, Hannah and Hailee Heller; and his stepchildren, Tim Bates of Custar, Beth Seymour (Rich) of Erie, PA and Jenny Jacobs (Chris) of Custar.
Memorial Contributions in James's honor may be gifted to the United Way of Henry County or the Liberty-Washington Township Fire Department.
