He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude Gunten and Edith Van Gunten (Renaux); his son Donald "Buck"; and his brother Tom. He is survived by: his significant other Maureen "Mo" Wilcheck; his children, Chris Van Gunten (Leisha) of Defiance, Pam Peterson of Pemberville and Wendy Swavely of North Carolina; his grandchildren, Easton, Cash Van Gunten, Melissa Merrill (Griffin) of Florida, Thomas Peterson and Samuel Swavely of Indianapolis; his sisters, Judith Bayer, Sara Toerne and Mary Jo Fox (Rick); and his pet Belle. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial donations are encouraged to the Wounded Warrior Project 230 W. Monroe St. Chicago, IL 60606. Donations can be made at the funeral home, or privately.
