He was predeceased by: his parents, Emery Kern and Emma Kern (Leibengood); his grandson Lance Kern; and his siblings, John, Ronald, Kenneth, Leonard "Bill", Rodney, Inez Box, Mary Yawberg, Ethel Bisher, Ruth Saylor and Dorothy Lewis.
He is survived by: his wife Cecelia Carpenter; his children, Debra Tanier (Scott) of Wauseon, Ohio, Barry Kern (Susan) of Liberty Center, Ohio and Thomas Kern (Peggy) of Liberty Center, Ohio; and his grandchildren, Kyle Kern (Michelle), Danett Setmire (Dustin), Keith Kern (Kim), Kara Langston (Jocef), Kenzy Kern (Madi), Troy Westhoven (Ashley), Lin Meloche (Rich), Caitlin Westhoven and Sean Westhoven. He is also survived by 19 great grandchildren.
Memorial Contributions in Kip's honor may be gifted to either the Liberty Center Athletic Boosters or to Victory Chapel Church.
