He was predeceased by: his parents, Asa Piatt and Mildred Piatt (Sines); his sister Jeannine Laird; and his nieces, Karen Sue Laird and Sandra Reed.
He is survived by: his sister Shirley Drake of Albany; and his nieces, Deborah Spencer (Carl "Ed") of Oxford, Deanna Childress of Hamilton, Christine Grimm of Athens and Kathleen Humphries (Ben) of Anderson, SC. He is also survived by numerous great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
