Jessie J. Cross Obituary
Leetonia-August 1, 2007-Jessie J. Cross, age 106, formerly of Somer Street, Leetonia died at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salem. Jessie was Leetonia and Columbiana County's oldest resident.
Mrs. Cross was born December 31, 1900 in West Newton, PA, a daughter of Frank A. and Amelia M. Crise Bergman. She had lived in Leetonia since 1930 coming from York, PA.
She was a housekeeper for many years and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she had participated in the Willing Workers Class. She was an avid bowler in several leagues and was a member of the Bowling Hall of Fame. She also served in the Lisbon Civil Defense Unit.
Her husband, Samuel L. Cross, whom she married March 30, 1930 died February 26, 1957.
She is survived by two daughters, Penny Lou (William) Garrett of Leetonia and Amelia Charnesky of Youngstown; sixteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Vada Harris and Sylvia Luckenbaugh, a son, Wilson Corna, a sister, Blanche Eley; and two brothers William and Frank Bergman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Leetonia with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.
