He was predeceased by: his parents, Emmett Engel and Vivian Engel; and his brother Jim Engel. He is survived by: his former spouse Dee Swingle (Hewitt); his children, Nicholas R. Engel (Chasity Perkins) and Jane Engel-Merrill; his granddaughter Betsy Atanasov; his daughter Mary Love (James); his grandchildren, Jennifer, Niles and Miriam Love; his daughter Susan Biggs Stoughton; his grandchildren, Jason and Erin Biggs; his daughter Amy Daubenmire; his grandchildren, Molly Robinson, David and Grant Daubenmire; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Kaaren Burke, Tilden, Canyon Babinec-Love, Emmett Acar-Love and Liam Robinson.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations can be made to Fairfield County Parks – 407 E. Main St. 43130 or Tunnel 2 Towers – 2361 Hylan Blvd. – Staten Island, NY 10306 or charity of your choice.
