He was predeceased by: his parents, James "Ike" Sweeney and Evelyn Sweeney; and his siblings, Patricia Metzger and Charles Edward Sweeney. He is survived by: his grandchildren, Logan James Sweeney, Skylar Thomas Sweeney and Cali Brie Sweeney; his siblings, James Sweeney of Columbus, Michael Sweeney (Barbara) of Columbus, Tim Sweeney of Galloway and Mary Peck (Karl) of Baltimore; his nephew Ken Sweeney of Lancaster; and his close friends, Cliff E. Miller of Lancaster and John Purdy of Columbus. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 29th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home Chapel - Lancaster (405 N Columbus St, Lancaster, OH 43130). A graveside service was held on Wednesday, January 29th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery (6440 S High St, Lockbourne, OH 43137).
