He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry V. and Frances E. Schmelzer (Kunkler); his brothers, Joseph Schmelzer (Doris) and Walter Schmelzer; and his siblings-in-law, Samuel Hartman, Richard Shull, William Kruse and Elda Mae Schmelzer.

He is survived by: his siblings, Mary Hartman, Elizabeth Shull, Marcella Waits (Richard) and Ambrose Schmelzer (Patricia). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Donations may be made in Charles' memory to FairHoPe Hospice, 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
