He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank A. Bruening and Mary M. Bruening (Dunlap); his son Benjamin Bruening; and his brother David Bruening. He is survived by: his wife Harriet "Halle"; his sons, Andrew Bruening (Paige) of Columbus, OH, Nathaniel Bruening of Denver, CO and Alexander Bruening of Winchester, VA; his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ian, Charlotte and Natalie; and his siblings, Thomas Bruening of Austin, TX and Mary Beth St (Bion).

Memorial contributions may be given to Heartland Hospice, 907 W. State St. Suite A, Fremont, OH 43420 or St. Joseph Catholic Church.

“Dear Bruening Family, I was Frank's housemate when we were medical students together at OSU. We were very close, in fact we became like family. In fact Frank was in my wedding in Toledo. I have recently been in contact with Mike McGannon planning our 50th OSU Medical School Class reunion and he told me of Frank's passing and tears actually came to my eyes He was there for me when we both needed to have a good person to be there and I will forever be grateful for his friendship.”
