He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Howard F. Simms and Sylvia Simms (Sharier); his wife Barbara Simms (Williams); his children, Amber Vance (Jeremy), Allan Simms (Meggan) of Newcomerstown and Lance Simms (April) of West Lafayette; his grandchildren, Austin Gano, Jessalynn "Sissy" Gano, Noah Gano, Emily Simms, Caleb "Tater" Gano, Kira Simms, Brayden Simms, Ana Gano, Jayce Simms, Aubrey Simms, Kevin Vance and Charleigh Simms; and his siblings, Howard F. Simms, Jr., Bertie Shaw (Lenny) of Kimbolton, Bunny McCoun (Mark), Maggie "Cookie" Edwards (Jeremy) of Newcomerstown and Kester Simms.
