He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Gillespie and Norma Gillespie (DeBrosse); and his siblings, Mary Lou Vernon and Bill Gillespie. He is survived by: his wife Jacquelyn (Snively); his children, Herbert G. (Lorene), Marc Gillespie (Kelly), Lydia Lyon (Brett) and Matthew Gillespie (Beth); his grandchildren, Zachary, Kiera, Megan, Kayle, Adam, Emma, Isabelle, Andrew, Nina, Trevor, Meier and Anna; his great grandchildren, Zaiden, Easton, Camille, Emmett, Madelyn and Isaias; and his sister Ola Joseph.

In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to Portage Parks.
