He was predeceased by: his parents, James Saum and Estell Butcher Saum; his daughters, Kelly Congrove Saum and Jill Saum; and his siblings, Eddie Saum, Carolyn Saum Litchfield and Ruth Studer (Paul Saum).

He is survived by: his wife Johanna "Jolie" Saum; his children, Jamie Wheeler (Michael) and Joyce Jenee Saum; his grandchildren, Katelynn Fisher, Shaley Fisher, Erica McConaha, Jaxson Saum, Hudson Saum and Addison Saum; his siblings, Marilyn Cornell, Mary Pittman, Jeanie Williams and Fred Saum; and his close friends, Bill Glass, Donald Nunley and Brian Nunley. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
