He was predeceased by: his parents, James C. Mercer Sr. and Ocie Paulina Carpenter Mercer; and his siblings, Bonnie Egger, Martha Lou Betts, Betty Mercer, Opal Mercer, Nancy Crum, Lodena Christman, Emma Bates, Samuel Donald Mercer, Oscar Ellis Mercer and Joseph Rolland Mercer.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Ault Mercer; his sons, Gregory Mercer (Annette) of Woodsfield, Ohio and James "J. C."; his grandchildren, Emily Mellinger (Jarod), Chase Mercer, Pacyn Mercer and Daylin Mercer; his great grandchildren, Ariah, Avah and Axel Mellinger; and his niece Bonnie Mercer Brooks of Barnesville, Ohio..
In keeping with COVID-19 mandates, face masks and social distancing will be required at the visitation and funeral services.
