He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Edward Townsend and Betty J. Matthews Townsend Ghearing; his stepfather Paul Ghearing; his sister Sally Miller; and his niece Michelle Miller.
He is survived by: his children, Tiffany Christoph of Jeffersonville and Brian Townsend of West Allis, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Justin, Andrea, Kelsey Townsend and Jacynda Patton; and his sister Cindy Townsend of West Virginia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
