He was predeceased by: his parents, George W. Brown and Dorothy L. Brown (Gardner); his sisters, Georgia Brown, Rose Brown and Alice Rose Brown; his brother-in-law Carnell Murff; and his nephew Michael Dowell.

He is survived by: his siblings, Leon Brown, Jack Brown (Betty), Lacotta Brown (Dorry), Harriett Murff, W. Doris Mitchell (Elder Jack) and Dena B. Brown; his aunt Hattie Gardner Miller; his daughter Ashley Dowell; and his grandsons, Giovanni Dowell and Michael Dowell, Jr.. He is also survived by his nine nephews; his ten nieces; a host of many great nieces, nephews, great-great nieces and nephews as well as many cousins and friends.
